Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
-Albert Einstein
According to Albert Einstein, the Church is insane. Right now we’re struggling with finding ways to survive in the post Christian Era. We wrestle with who we should be. We try to map out what our next move should be. We’re left fighting for our lives.
Ultimately this will be our downfall. When we focus on survival instead of God, we’ve lost our purpose. God doesn’t send us out to save buildings. God sends us to share the Gospel. God wants us to build relationships with people. When we focus too much on saving what we know, we lose sight of what we’re ultimately supposed to be doing.
Far too many of us are struggling alone. We need to stop doing the same things we’ve been doing and start looking for ways to support each other. We’ve wasted valuable energy and time trying to save who we were. As a result we’ve missed out on what we were called to do now.
What we’ve done doesn’t work anymore. It would be ‘insane’ to keep going thinking things will get better.
In Matthew 16:25 Jesus said “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” (NIV)
We are called to share the gospel. We’re supposed to be the light of Christ in the world. We need to let go. We have to move forward with Christ. We will find new life if we trust Jesus. When we truly love and serve with joy, we will become the appealing Church we wanted to be in the first place.
