I woke up this morning to the news of the Colorado shooting. Last week it was the Scarborough block party shooting. A few weeks before that it was the Eaton Centre shooting. It seems like a never ending stream of despair and destruction. Lives cut short. Stories untold. For what? What purpose does it serve?
It seems that we as a people have forgotten what death is. That we have forgotten that life is a gift. A gift that is given in the context of community. We need each other for health, well being and support. We need one another. Everything is not about our own needs, it’s about the needs of all.
It’s time to fight back. To say that love wins, that life is worthwhile and people are important. It’s time for us to lift each other up instead of tearing each other down. Let’s share the message that people matter. Let’s speak of peace and grace that is offered. Let’s speak love into the world and spread that love with others.
Let’s speak love into this world. Let us pray for those who’ve been affected by tragedy. Let us pray for those who are disconnected and alone. Let’s seek new ways to speak the light and life we know into this world so that others may hear it and know they’re not alone. Let’s speak love into a world that desperately needs it.
Join me. Let’s speak love.
