Random Thought Thursday: May 17 Edition

It’s been a while!  Here’s a little of what I’ve been up to:

First of all reading the Bible in the style of a novel instead of through study guides or daily reading sheets has been fascinating.  Little parts I’ve always glossed over have more meaning.  Running into old friends {like Elijah} has been incredibly interesting as I’ve just recently read all that came before so it’s fresh and vivid and his message is quite powerful.  I’m really glad I began this exercise as it has brought the scriptures to life in a new way for me.

Stemming from all this reading I have to say I’m thrilled to not be a prophet back in the day.  Being a prophet was hard.  Ministry is hard enough but having to call an entire people to account would be a nightmare.  Glad I’m just Becky at this moment in time.

Life at home has been pretty quiet.  X. has tons of new words and is always on the go.  I’ve been experimenting in the kitchen and embracing all the fresh spring produce I can find.  I cashed in my air miles for a new waffle iron so I anticipate a  a great waffle adventure is in my future.

I’ve been quiet over the last week as I’ve been taking some time to mull things over and debate what it is God wants from me.  After receiving some wise counsel last night after Presbytery I think I have a better idea on what I should be doing.  I’m grateful for the advice and prayer of friends.  It’s so helpful!

Well that’s it for me but that’s not all.  I’d love to know what’s going on with you.

How have you been?

Random Thought Thursday: April 12th Edition

  1. Does anyone know why sitcom characters don’t remove their shoes when they enter their homes?  This bothers me.
  2. My husband and I were thinking of going to Vegas in the next month or so but I’m a little nervous as we’ve never left X. before so now we’re wondering if we should stick a little closer to home.  I’m excited to have time with him but this a new experience for me.  Any advice or ideas on what we should do?
  3. X. has decided that he no longer needs naps.  Mamma still needs them though.  His nap was when I got everything done around the house.  I’ve found this to be a challenge and will definitely require a change in strategy on my part.
  4. My email box was out of control this week.  I’ve almost conquered it but have undoubtedly offended many as I was not a quick with the replies as I should have been.  Terribly sorry about that.
  5. Just copy of the Eat Clean Diet Vegetarian and am super excited!  The recipes look great and I’m going to pick out a few to try this weekend.

Random Thought Thursday: March 15th Edition

Thought 1:

I have to admit that my Lent project has taken over my life.

So far I’ve read:
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
Crazy Love by Francis Chan
Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell
Malachi {along with other Bible readings that I forgot to keep track of}
Sex God by Rob Bell
Jesus wants to save Christians by Rob Bell and Don Golden

and I’m in the middle of
They Like Jesus but not the Church by Dan Kimball
Erasing Hell by Francis Chan
Crave by Chris Tomlinson

I also watched the web conference today at preachbettersermons.com and it was brilliant.  I came out of it with 8 pages of notes, tons of good ideas and a good sense for where I’d like to be {preaching wise} within the next year.

Because of all this activity you could say it’s rather intense here.  I’ve got thoughts flowing constantly and am talking my husband’s ear off with all of my ideas.  I am truly enjoying it though and haven’t felt this ‘on track’ spiritually since before my son was born.  It’s been a kind of reawakening of sorts.  This part of me which lay dormant has been reborn and I’m sure it’s scaring a few people!

Thought 2:

I have completely neglected the cooking/random family side of the blog.  Does anyone miss it?  I blame thought 1.

Thought 3:

The lake is beautiful and it feels more like May than March.  I love this weather!  I absolutely adore it.  I hope that spring is here to stay.

Thought 4:

I have an obsession with Fringe.  It has to end.  I am watching the whole series over again and seeing all of the foreshadowing that took place before I realized fully what was happening.  It’s been interesting to watch again but I do need some new television.  Does anyone have any recommendations for good shows I can get into?

Thought 5:

I created a bracket for March Madness this year as the golf course we golf at has a fun league.  I stink already.  I’ve had 3 teams go out in the first round and my friends are killing me.  Basketball is not my sport at all but I had hoped for a better showing than this!

Random Thought Thursday: March 1 Edition

  1. I’m bored of Pinterest already.  Two weeks in and I really don’t care.  Everyone said I would love it and I should give it a chance.  I do think people’s boards are pretty and I’ve found some nice ideas but overall just not something I spend time on.  I feel like I’m missing something as so many people love it but I am lukewarm.
  2. I adore Fringe.  I was annoyed at the beginning of the season but now that they are going back to their roots I find I love it once more.  If you haven’t seen it, watch it!  It’s intelligent and you don’t find a lot of intelligence on television anymore.
  3. I’m really enjoying the reading I’ve been doing for Lent.  A lot of my books deal with change and the church in the future so I find that’s where I’m drifting right now.  I would love some suggestions for other spiritual reading if you have any.
  4. I used to love the Oscars.  I would watch for the fashions and root for certain people.  This year as I sat down to watch I was shocked when I realized that I haven’t seen one movie that was nominated.  This was a tragedy and really makes me realize how much my husband and I need to prioritize date night!
  5. I killed my orchid that I received for Christmas from Gran.  It was beautiful until it wasn’t.  Apparently I gave it a fungus by overwatering. Sadly by the time I realized what was happening to it, it had perished. Luckily I still have the orchid my husband got me from Valentine’s day.

Random Thought Thursday: February 16th Edition

  1. I received a lovely orchid from my husband for Valentine’s Day.  This now means I have two living plants in my home.  This is a momentous occasion.
  2. The CBC Radio App has changed my life.  No longer do I have to drag my little beat up cd/radio player with a broken antenna all over the house trying to find a signal.  Now I can carry my iPad with me and it’s crystal clear radio coverage all day.  I feel like an adult again as I’m able to listen to current events and my favorite show ‘Q’.
  3. My husband is in love with Jeremy Lin.  “Linsanity” has taken over our lives.  It’s kind of like Tim Tebow all over again.  I’ll write more on this later…
  4. Thomas the Tank Engine has taken over my life.  There are stuffed trains, metal trains, wooden trains, colouring books, stickers and more moving in slowly and infiltrating everything.  My son loves him.
  5. I may have given in and joined Pinterest this week.  I’m not obsessed with it but I do look at the boards a little each day and seek inspiration.  I don’t think it will become an addiction and I’m glad about that but I am enjoying it.

Random Thought Thursday: February 9th Edition

  1. I have big plans for this weekend that include applesauce and peanut butter cookies.  Usually this means we relax do almost nothing but a girl can dream!
  2. X. has two teeth left to come in.  Once they arrive I’m throwing a party.  It’s been difficult for X. in the last little while and I look forward to happier days for him.  I hope it happens soon!
  3. I wonder if Gisele’s comments about the Patriots receivers will be the Yoko Ono moment of Tom Brady’s career.  Is it all downhill from here?  Time will tell.  I’m so glad I don’t have people following me around with cameras to catch all the stupid things I say.  Celebrity isn’t a good thing all the time.
  4. I haven’t gotten into Pinterest.  Everyone else seems to love it and spend loads of time pinning things.  I’m not really sure if it’s a good idea. Do I need another way to waste time on the internet?  Is it really as good as everyone says?
  5. It’s getting close to Lent.  I’ve got my pancakes lined up and am ready for the pancake party but am trying to figure out what to do for Lent itself. Should I have a blog meditation series? Should we do the Daniel fast then? Should I pick a book and read it?  I want to do something to prepare for Easter and am just tossing around a few ideas.  If you have any suggestions let me know.  I’d love to hear what you’re doing or would like to do {alone or as a community}

Random Thought Thursday: February 2nd Edition

  1. It’s February already!!!!!  I cannot believe this.  It seems like 2012 is going so fast and Easter is just around the corner.  We’re looking forward to pancakes at the end of the month and are trying to perfect a plant-based diet recipe that will blow your minds.  My son loves this as pancakes are one of his favorite things.
  2. It’s Superbowl weekend!  I am looking forward to an evening of entertainment, nail biting and seriously tasty food.  It should be a great time.  I really hope the Patriots win.
  3. I have the week off and I’ve discovered I get so much more done when I’m not writing a sermon. I’ve written a few times this week and have done quite a lot around the house.  I do a lot of work preparing for Sunday and I never really notice how much until I don’t have to do it.
  4. Mangos & Pineapples are my favorite thing.  I cut them up into tiny pieces, toss them like a fruit salad and keep it in the fridge.  It doesn’t last long as my husband loves it too.  If you’re looking for a sweet, healthy treat this is it.
  5. My orchid is still alive!  You know the one I blogged about before Christmas that my Gran gave me.  It’s still alive and it has 3 buds for new flours.  I’m so happy.  I usually kill plants.  This is a turning point for me.

Bonus Thoughts: {because this week I’ve had a lot on my mind!}

  • This week we’ve gone from winter to spring and this weekend we’re expecting winter again.  It’s like a high school boyfriend who you keep breaking up with only to get back together two days later.  I want a commitment, spring or winter.  At this point I really don’t care which one I just want the weather to make up it’s mind.
  • Downton Abbey is must see TV.  If you haven’t watched it, check it out.  I am a history nut and love period dramas so I might be a little more enthused than the average person but I adore the dialogue and cinematography.

Random Thought Thursday: January 26th Edition

  1. Cleaned out the pantry this week.  It feels pretty good to open the door and see everything organized and in it’s place.  We’ll be eating a lot of pasta over the coming weeks as I found a ton of it randomly placed throughout the shelves.  Note to self: Always place pasta in the pasta section.  This will prevent overstock in the future.
  2. We have no snow.  I live in a part of Canada that always has snow in the winter.  The lake isn’t frozen.  My grass is still a little green.  There is something seriously wrong with this picture.
  3. I went to the bookstore this week to try and find something inspiring {aka: relevant for personal spiritual development} and realized that I still haven’t finished Mere Christianity so I went home.  I endeavor to finish this book over the next few weeks.  I do this all the time.  I have a lot of half read books lying around here.
  4. I’ve intended to write more this week about Jesus, food and random life events but I think this weather is getting to me.  By the time my son goes to bed, I’m almost ready myself.  Here’s hoping this week will be more fruitful when it comes to writing.
  5. I am still absolutely in love with Storage Wars.  It’s probably another reason I am not writing as often as I should.  Whenever I watch it I get swept away in the excitement.  I dream of going to storage auctions and finding that great hidden gem.  I have a history with auctions.  I got engaged at one {but that is a story for another time}.

Random Thought Thursday: January 12th Edition

  1. I’m obsessed with Storage Wars on A&E.  I cannot stop watching.  At least I can work on my crochet projects while it’s on.
  2. Tim Tebow plays Tom Brady on Saturday.  My husband and I are rooting for opposite teams.  It could get interesting.
  3. We’ve had a busy week here which might explain the silence on the blog.  Between appointments and getting back into activities the time has flown.  I’m looking forward to the weekend and a little relaxation.
  4. My son is in love with Hummus right now.  You may see some recipes pop up on the blog as I experiment with new ways to enjoy chickpeas in dip form.
  5. We survived Gymnastics yesterday with a substitute teacher.  Having a group of 18 month- 3 year olds attempt to do a structured program is difficult on a regular day but with a new teacher was next to impossible.  It was interesting to say the least.

Random Thought Thursday: January 5th Edition

  1. True Story: I forgot I was scheduled to work this weekend.  When I scheduled my Sundays I thought I had taken two weeks off after Christmas.  I had taken two Sundays but not two weeks.  Luckily I happened to look at my planner and noticed but this is how scattered I’ve been lately.  This is one of the reasons work is good for me.  I need structure!
  2. Star Wars on Blu Ray is awesome.  I got it for my husband for Christmas.  It’s very strange to see it in such detail as I remember watching it on my old TV in the 80’s and the picture quality wasn’t that great.  It’s been a lot of fun watching again.
  3. I am all about Crochet at the moment.  I just finished a white scarf and am currently looking for my next project.  I love the challenge it brings and I was able to crochet mug cozies for everyone in my family for Christmas.  I should go back to knitting at some point so I don’t forget how but it can wait for the moment.
  4. One of the most popular search hits for my blog lately has been “Courtney Stodden Church Outfit”.  Apparently people are dying to know what she wears to Church.  Sadly I have no updates for them.
  5. I had said I was going to do a Daniel Fast in January but with everything that’s happened lately I have not been able to get organized.  Hopefully I’ll get that up and running in the future. That said, even though I am not doing a structured fast or program I am trying to make healthier choices {and will blog about them!}.  Right now at this moment I am enjoying a Strawberry-Kiwi Smoothie which I made with my new blender that my husband got me for Christmas.    If you’d like to make yourself a healthy treat that is yummy and very like soft sherbet simply blend 2 c of frozen strawberries, 4 peeled kiwis, 1 c of water and 3 tbsp of lime juice together until smooth.  It’s sweet, tart, tangy and so very good.  It makes enough for two.
