And so with chili and chocolate the football season began.

Our annual fantasy draft was held at my house on Wednesday. I usually serve chili so that wasn’t a huge surprise to anyone when they arrived for their feast. I think I was surprised when I was asked for chocolate. As my Grandfather’s granddaughter I happened to have a huge selection from which to choose so we were rather energized by the time the draft actually started.

I drafted second. This is sub-optimal for many reasons. One, you’re forced into picking one of the top three guys {LeSean McCoy was my pick} and two you have to wait until everyone behind you has gone twice before you can pick again. My team is relatively decent but not amazing. I think I can make it work.

Afterwards I was exhausted, much like I am on Sundays after preaching. My husband laughed at this and then we got to talking a little bit about how the church is like fantasy football. There’s no control over your team and you pretty much have to have absolute faith that things will work out and not make changes or do anything drastic without considerable thought as it can make or break your year.

Here’s my team as it stands right now.  I’m not overly confident but it is what it is.  Let me know what you think.

I’m not ready.

In 23 days we will draft our fantasy football teams. I’m not ready.

I know I’m not ready for the draft for a number of reasons. One is that I’ve done no research. Another is that I never feel ready. And perhaps most importantly I know I’m not ready because when Arian Foster came out as a ‘Vegan’ I told my husband I would draft him as a mascot of sorts {as I need a mascot every year} and he reminded me that a few years ago I had him on my team, he failed me and I dropped him within three weeks.

How could I have forgotten he was on my team? I didn’t even know who he was until all the fuss happened about his diet…

I have some sort of fantasy amnesia happening. The players who fail me are completely erased from my brain. This is not a good thing. I need to know they suck. I need to keep them far away from my team. I am tired of coming in fourth. I’d like to win again. My research begins today.

In 23 days we will draft our fantasy football teams. I may not be ready now but I will be…

I could tell you…

As I sat on the couch last night fretting over my fantasy football team and wondering if a comeback was possible I realized something very important.  Like Tim Tebow, my boy Tom Brady also points to the sky….

But that’s not what I’m writing about today….

I’m not sure what to write about actually.  I could tell you that I grooved in the car yesterday to a random mix of music that spanned the 80′s, 90′s and today (courtesy of my iPod).  I could tell you that I ran around picking up party supplies, ordering fruit trays and looking at yarn.  We could discuss the realization I had I really need to be busy and how much I love napping.  Instead I think I’ll leave you with this, a beautiful song that I listened to today.  I have been known to pray through music and today during my reflection time I listened to this.  It resonated with me.  Blessings to you as you travel through your day, I pray you find something that resonates with you.

Fantasy Football: A Warning

A warning to you if you play fantasy football…

Should you see that a Quarterback is on my team, run far away from him.  It seems that Peyton Manning will not be playing this year as his injury required additional surgery.   Last year Matt Stafford walked out on the field and within one play was out for almost the whole season.  The only Quarterback I have luck with is Tom Brady.  The one year I didn’t draft him he was out for the season.

I’m starting to get a little worried…

My Fantasy Football Team

After a false start, my fantasy football team was born last night after a night of knuckle biting agony.   In this game it’s impossible to get everyone you want, but I think what I got was fairly decent.   I don’t hate them (yet) but I am definitely looking at making some changes on the defensive side.  Here they are:

Quarterback:
Tom Brady
Peyton Manning
Jason Campbell

Wide Receiver:
Wes Welker
Chad Ochocinco
Davone Bess
Pierre Garcon
Braylon Edwards
Donald Driver

Running Back:
Le Sean McCoy
LeGarrette Blount
Pierre Thomas
Joseph Addai
Justin Forsett
Marion Barber

Tight End:
Rob Gronkowski
Lance Kendricks

Defence:
Paul Posluszny
Chad Greenway
Keith Brooking
Brandon Flowers
Rashean Mathis
Michael Adams
Ron Bartell
Alphonso Smith
