The beginning of 2013 was absolutely wretched. There’s no getting around that. We had a death in our family and horrible tragedies in our community. Friends are struggling and it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier. It’s been a tough 10 days so far, so in response I give thanks. I give thanks for what we do have, for the blessings around us and for the grace and love that sustains us. I give thanks to remember the good things in life and thank the one who made those things possible. Today there are many things for which I am thankful:
1: I’m thankful for this reminder from Colossians 1:17 which sustains me in difficult times. “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
2: I’m thankful for friends with big hearts and quiet spirits.
3: I’m thankful for prayers sent and prayers answered.
4: I’m thankful for the promise of a Sunday nap.
5: I’m thankful for green grass poking through white snow.
6: I’m thankful for good books with engaging characters that I can get lost in on a lazy afternoon.
7: I’m thankful for new friends and old friends, for people engaging with me and sharing their lives.
8: I’m thankful for a little one who litters my floors with tiny cars and toy engines as he brings joy and laughter into our home.
9: I’m thankful for a husband who knows me and still chooses to love me anyways.
10: I’m thankful for life, for the ability to live each moment as it is a gift.
What are you thankful for?

What a beautiful thankful list. I’m so sorry the beginning of this year has been rough.
Thanks Becky. It truly has been wretched. Yet it is the season of Epiphany: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.”
I too know difficult days, but above all I am thankful that God is present in all circumstances and that his blessing is always on me, whether I see it or not.
