Random Thought Thursday: October 20th Edition

1: This week we have been battling illness in our home. X got it first and even with constant hand washing, I succumbed. It’s been a busy week with tending to sickness, doing school work and preparing for Sunday. As a result I’ve fallen behind in emails and phone calls so if you’re expecting anything from me I apologize! I’ll work my way through once I am feeling a bit better.

2: There is nothing cozier than a pot of tea. I’ve been enjoying quite a selection from David’s Tea and it has been quite wonderful for this sick girl. I highly recommend Movie Night and Green Seduction. I was introduced to the store by a friend who gave me some and now I am hooked.

3: While I may need some tea, X needs George. The poor little guy is happy only when carrying his George blanket, watching George on tv or reading about George in a book. We’ve had a lot of George around here in the last few days. I knew he was starting to feel a little better yesterday when his train set was appealing again.

4: I’ve really enjoyed being back in class. The benefit of online learning is that I can pause the lectures if I need to get up and stretch. I wish there had been a pause mechanism in all my classes.

5: My husband never gets sick. I wonder if it’s because he’s developed some super crazy immune system due to his job. He’s so lucky…

Productivity down?

If so, I suspect you’re playing this.   I know I am…

Random Thought Thursday: October 13th Edition

  1. Terra Nova is a terrible show that I absolutely love. It’s like the Star Trek series.  The plots are ripped from TNG (just sub dinos in for aliens).  There’s always some dreaded virus/disease/killer faction waiting in the wings to take everyone out but of course they always figure it out just in time.  Instead of a space ship, there’s a colony.  It’s just hysterical.  The only thing that would make it better for me is if Picard were in charge of the whole mess.
  2. My fantasy football team stinks.   I lost again.  I’m not sure how to fix it.  I think all I can hope for is to be best of the worst at this point.
  3. I think ABC should cancel Dancing with the Stars and put us all out of our misery.  It gets worse every season.  In our house we PVR it now and fast forward through the dances we don’t like.  Last night we made it through one.  I should probably drop the show.
  4. My son’s 2nd birthday is tomorrow.  I can hardly believe how much he has grown over these past two years.  He’s his own little man now with ideas and personality all his own.  We’re so blessed to have him in our family.
  5. TNG is coming out on Blu Ray next year!  I am aware that I’ve outed myself as a huge Star Trek nerd but I’m okay with that…

5 thoughts about our new lifestyle…

  1. My husband discovered the China Study while away on vacation this year.  This lead to research and ultimately my husband and I made decision to live on a whole foods plant based diet.  It was a difficult Thanksgiving as I didn’t eat turkey but I did survive and my mom was wonderful enough to make a delicious mushroom dish for us.
  2. Because of my husband’s discovery (and further research since) I decided to take the Certificate in Plant Based Nutrition.  I’m hoping it helps me keep up with everything my husband is reading!
  3. The strange thing about this is that about 3 weeks before my husband discovered the China Study, I thought we should do a Daniel Fast as a family.  Now we are living the Daniel fast.  Too funny.
  4. Speaking of the Daniel Fast, for those of you living near me, I am running a Daniel Fast study in January to detox the body and the spirit.   If you’d like in (or even more information) contact me and I’ll give you the details.  I’ve already got a couple on board and am looking forward to the study.  It’ll be a time of reflection and purposeful action in faith.  Plus you’ll have fun, I guarantee it!
  5. To get a taste of what we are eating right now I highly recommend trying the Maple Kissed Pumpkin muffins from Happy Herbivore. I made them this morning and they are delicious!

Who’s to say what’s impossible?

I love this song.  I groove every time it pops up on my playlist (and it pops up a lot because I live with a little boy who’s best friend is Curious George).   I love it because it helps me remember how important it is to look at things from a different perspective.   Perspective is a funny thing.  Some people might see something as impossible while others see an opportunity.  I want to live in a world where we see opportunity.  I want to see things from the other side…

  1. I totally forgot it was Thursday until my Grandmother told me to blog about my misadventures with her at the grocery store.  If you happened to be in the parking lot of the Superstore closest to my house this morning and saw a girl sticking out from under her car, that was me.  Needless to say we had a day.  Lots of fun though.
  2. It’s Thanksgiving!  I’m very excited to get together with family and friends to celebrate our many blessings.  Fall is my favorite time of year and Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays.
  3. New people moved in to the house beside ours a month ago.  I still have not met them.  They never leave their house.   I find it strangely compelling.  Who are they?
  4. Pineapples are on sale this week.  I bought two.  Seriously love pineapples.
  5. I’ve had way too much caffeine today….

Last call….

I’m getting tired.  The negativity around me in the Church setting is eating at my core.  I’m over it people.   It’s time to move on and find a better way, a positive way.  Perhaps we need to find the Jesus way.  I’d like to thank everyone who has submitted unsolicited advice on my future career options but I’m not ready to leave.  I guess I’m the type of girl who will go down with the ship.

I’m tired of the chaos.  I’m tired of the anger.  I’m tired of the people fighting, and crying and lamenting.  I want to pull a Moses and go climb up a mountain to get away from all the complaints.   Change is happening.  Not because I want it, or you want it.  It’s not because ‘Jane’ decided we should go this way or ‘George’ thought we should go that way.  Change is happening because God wants change.  We aren’t doing what we should be doing.  We’re being pushed in the direction God wants us to go.

Life is all about change.  We are born into change.  We are change.   When will we accept that nothing stays the same forever?

This week I came across a song from the 1990′s called Closing Time by the band Semisonic.  There is a verse in the middle of the song that really speaks to the change we are experiencing, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end”.  We are experiencing the end.  We are living the end of what we know.  But it doesn’t have to be a permanent end.  It could be the beginning of something.  It could be great if we make the choice to follow God’s will and work towards something better.

It might be last call for us now but as we all know bars reopen the next day and we can too.  We could experience renewal and growth but we have to be open to the movement of the spirit.  Digging our heals in, refusing to change and wallowing in negativity is getting us nowhere.  It’s time to change.  We must change.

It’s last call.  Everyone knows the night gets more interesting after the bar shuts down…

I’m back!

I’m back!  I disappeared for a while unintentionally.  My family and I spent a few weeks at the ocean and I fully intended to blog.  Instead I found myself caught up in the sand, the winds and the water.   My son did too.  We played and laughed. He ran and ran.  It was wonderful.

As I walked, I really thought about life and what God wants from me.  It was relaxing and refreshing.  I’ve got a lot to organize before I post it here.  There are new recipes, ideas about faith and general confessions regarding craziness.  I look forward to getting back into things!
